We took a long hard look at the Neato XV-11. I don’t know about you, but I am not a big fan of vacuuming, unfortunately it’s a necessary evil that must be done. Often times when lugging around my large upright vacuum, thoughts of hiring a cleaning service arise, but I can never seem to justify the expense. By mapping out your room in advance, the Neato XV-11 is able to see obstacles before it hits them. This prevents the robot from bumping into furniture and redirecting itself, leading to longer inefficient cleanings.

The XV-11 doesn’t stop at just object detection however, it also detects and maps doorways leading to other rooms. What good is an automatic cleaner if you have to pick it up and move it from room to room yourself? Once it has finished one room, it knows exactly where to go in order clean the next room in your house.

Now there may be some nooks and crannies in your home that you wouldn’t want your robot to venture off to. By utilizing the included markers, you can designate “keep out zones” to restrict its movements into certain areas, giving you more control over its movements.

Does it really suck up the dirt?

The Neato Robotics official site states the XV-11 boasts the most powerful suction of any robotic cleaner on the market today. Utilizing a high performance, centrifugal impeller, it can pick up most any debris it finds on your floor. The Neato also isn’t limited by the varying types of flooring you may have in your house, it can effectively clean carpet, tile, hardwood, Pergo, and linoleum flooring very effectively.

If you’re like me, you probably whip out your upright vacuum and race it around the floors as fast as possible to get it over with, this approach to cleaning inevitably leaves dirt and debris behind. The XV-11 doesn’t limit itself by cleaning at a single speed; it adjusts its movement automatically, based on the surface it is cleaning making sure no spec is left behind.

You’ll also notice this unit’s rectangular cleaning head, yet another unique feature. Unlike many of its competitors with rounded cleaning heads, the Neato’s flat face allows it to clean right up against walls, and fit nicely into corners. Rounded heads can lead to frustrating patches left behind by your robot. Along with the rectangular cleaning head, you will find the XV-11’s low profile lets it easily clean underneath beds, sofas, and other low clearance areas.

How easy is it to use, I’m not a computer programmer.

The Neato XV-11 features a large dirt collection bin which is nice so you don’t have to worry about emptying it out every 5 minutes. When you do empty out the detachable bin, it is simply a matter of popping it out, removing the filter, and dumping the debris.

As with any battery powered device you need to make sure it stays charged, so it’s ready when you need it. Well, the Neato XV-11 lets you forget about that. On Amazon this product averages a 4 star review with over 80 reviews and counting, which made me feel confident about purchasing. One complaint I did see come up was about the unit’s volume. It was said that the unit was pretty loud and wouldn’t recommend running it while asleep. Well yes the device is loud but in comparison to your manual vac, I don’t see much of an issue here. Remember the Neato’s user interface allows you to program it to clean at any time of day, so you can run it while you’re at work and not worry about the volume.

The Neato XV-11 has shown to be one of the most advanced auto cleaning robots on the market and surely has a place in my home. With its impressive feature set and solid reviews I feel you can be confident in the xv-11 when considering an automatic cleaner of your own.

Neato XV-11 does price itself in the higher tier of robotic cleaners, yet is still the best deal is at Amazon not the $400 on Neato Robotic’s website. However, Amazon pricing has shown to be your best deal at a significantly lower price.
